I know it sounds obvious, but the library is great for saving money on books. I was VERY surprised how many current books Marrickville Library has for instance.
Not only that, but you can read newspapers and magazines there too. And borrow magazines, which is great. I used to spend an absolute fortune on glossies!
Re: the books you have... I've sold quite a few on Ebay. I think the trick is to batch them so people can bid on 3/4 of the same genre etc.
Or you could organise to swap them with some like-minded friends. That goes for clothes too.
